About the author, Alice: Alice was born in 1916 in Petit-Quatre in St. Boniface, Québec. Her family later moved to the United States in search of a better life. In her book, Waterbury, she talks about the many hardships they encountered as a family. The fact that they went to school where everyone spoke English and they could not communicate because they spoke only French. The family was poor, but very rich in love.
Alice took it upon herself to write the family story for generations to come, but she wrote her book in French, and she now feared that her grandchildren and their children would not be able to read her life story. She turned to the Franco-American Centre for help. They translated the book for her, and made copies for her children and great-grandchildren.
Alice is an author, artist and is an advocate for the French language. She is a remarkable woman with a "joie de vivre." She says that she has rounded the corners in her life.

I have another person that you may be interested in adding to the FAWI site...she is from CT...She wrote a book about her family and the life they endured from Quebec to the US. It was written in French and she was worried that her family would not be able to read it so I translated it for her...she was thrilled. Her name is Alice Gélinas...she is in the last issue of Le Forum.
