Subj:  Harvesting corn in Haiti
Date:  Monday, November 3, 2003 7:32:43 PM

Even thought we still have temperatures in the 80's it was time to harvest the corn in the orphanage garden, which is off the property of the orphanage itself.. This is an activity that is reserved for the older kids at the orphanage. It was kind of funny to see how bummed out all the littler ones were in not being able to go out and work their butts off in the fields. It was a good opportunity for us though to get to know the older kids a little bit better. In Haiti they allow the corn to dry right on the stalk, which in turn they then dry again after shucking it. I think this is what we would call Indian corn in the U.S.

BenjaminNoyeMelien.jpg - Did I mention that dried corn husks itches?

WilsonTrnasportsMayi.jpg - We could put a couple of sacks on the bike
ReturningFromGarden.jpg - Some had to be carried.
