Which means the Unknown wild thing. This refers to the slaves that would escape from the plantations in Haiti and go run off and form groups in the wilderness (back when Haiti used to be a lush green place). They would sound the conch when they wanted to call all the escaped slaves together. The Haitian call the statue Neg Maroon...the wild guy. It really is an icon and a work of art at the same time and is pretty powerful. It is also interesting to note that from one direction you see the beautiful presidential palace in the background and the opposite direction you see how the rest of Haiti lives with the escaped slave calling for freedom in the middle.

Which are the public transportation in PAP. We really like them. They are fun to ride as everyone gets in on whatever the topic of conversation is. When we 'blancs' are there the topic is usually our freckles, which they swear is melanoma and we need to go seek medical attention.

This is Bin who we stayed with for a few days in-between places. She is an American who runs a guesthouse in PAP. LtoR, Jana, Ben, Bin, Brian, who is also going to work at the same place as Ben and Jana

This is Cenat (pronounced Say Na) who is one of the university students who has been beyond incredibly gracious showing us around PAP. 

This is the presidential palace in PAP...very beautiful...but not how 99.9999999% of Haitian live...HA!
